The machine built in Czechoslovakia under another name

The version with an afterburner received a modified engine in the tail, and the longer tubular end of the fuselage and the pair of airbrakes became its recognition features. In the Czechoslovak Air Force this type flew under a domestic designation and was built under license, so it is one of the machines Czech modelers have a particular attachment to.

Why this route to an upgrade

Three routes are available for this machine. A photo-etched set gives the greatest number of parts, but it asks for patience and the gluing of tiny facets. A zoom is its shortened form, concentrated on the cockpit. And this set takes a third route: instead of metal it offers layered decals with raised dials that are applied directly onto the plastic.

What sets the three apart is the amount of work rather than the number of parts. The photo-etched route means bending metal and placing small facets, the zoom narrows the same job to the cockpit, and this set is laid straight onto the plastic. Whoever wants mainly a color cockpit and not kit-like work with tweezers therefore has the more comfortable choice.

A procedure that has proved itself

The relief of the original instruments is leveled with a sanding sponge, the area is degreased and the decal is laid from the center out to the edges and fixed with PVA glue. The belts are bent only once the seat has been glued in, so that they follow its shape.

Before ordering it is worth checking which kit you actually have at home. For an older mold of the same aircraft there is a separate group of accessories with a differently shaped tub, and the two are not interchangeable.
