This item solves one particular thing: the pitot tube on the nose of a MiG-23 model in the MLD version. MASTER makes it separately precisely because it differs in shape from the tube of the other Flogger versions, and it therefore has a part number of its own. When choosing, therefore, go by the version you are building, not just by the type of aircraft.
Injection-molded plastic cannot make a thin hollow tube. A plastic part is always solid, has a parting line along its whole length and may already be slightly twisted when taken out of the mold. A turned metal part is straight, concentric along its whole length and has an open mouth, so it looks like a real tube even close up. There is added value in durability too - a tube at the tip of a model is the part that catches every careless touch, and metal will at most bend back instead of breaking.
First cut off the plastic original and level the surface. Drill a hole for the pin with a micro drill, starting with a smaller diameter and enlarging it gradually until the metal tube seats without pressure. Glue with super glue, or with epoxy if you want more time to align the axis. For painting, the metal has to be degreased with spirit and undercoated with a primer intended for metal. Anyone who wants the most natural look can simply polish the metal surface lightly and darken it with a blackening solution. Fit the part at the very end, after the model has been varnished and the decals applied, otherwise masking will dirty or bend exactly what you want to bring out.
