Special Hobby Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XII 1:48 is an injection-molded plastic kit of the British fighter with the Griffon engine, completed with photo-etched parts and decal schemes for several machines.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit from the Czech maker Special Hobby captures the low-altitude fighter version of the legendary Spitfire in 1:48 scale. Besides the plastic parts the box contains photo-etched elements and decals for several marking options. It is a classic short-run kit that will reward a more careful approach when cleaning the parts up.
The Spitfire Mk.XII was the first production Spitfire powered by the Rolls-Royce Griffon engine. It came about as the answer to the low-flying German fighters and bombers attacking the south coast of England. Compared with the earlier versions with the Merlin engine it offered markedly higher performance at low altitudes. The machines served above all with the squadrons guarding the airspace over the English Channel and the coast.
Glue the parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic and clean up the casting gates on short-run parts carefully. Apply a base coat (primer) before painting, as spraying with an airbrush gives the best result on camouflage. Glue the photo-etched elements with cyanoacrylate glue. Before the decals we recommend a gloss clear coat and then a matte coat over the top to even the surface out.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
