This injection-molded plastic kit from IBG represents the British escort destroyer HMS Middleton of the Hunt class (type II) as she was in 1943, in 1:700 scale. It is a waterline model with a detailed deck, superstructures and photo-etched metal for the fine items.
The Hunt class was one of the best known series of British escort destroyers of the Second World War. These smaller but well-armed ships protected convoys and carried out escort duties; the type II carried heavy anti-aircraft and gun armament and depth charges against submarines. HMS Middleton served with the Royal Navy in demanding escort operations, where it was exactly ships like these that decided the fate of supply convoys. A compact silhouette full of armament and fine detail is a rewarding subject for a model in this scale.
Glue the small parts of 1:700 scale carefully, and use cyanoacrylate for the photo-etched railings, ladders and masts. Finish and paint the deck and the superstructures before fitting the fine items. The hull is best sprayed with an airbrush, and the model can be completed with a suitable stand.
