Modern radars are absolutely decisive for the silhouette of a present-day warship, and their fine mesh structure is almost impossible to capture in plastic. This aftermarket set from Flyhawk brings a photo-etched version of the radar antennas for models of contemporary ships of the US Navy. It is not a ship model but a detail accessory.
The set replaces the simplified plastic radars with fine photo-etched meshes and frames that, once assembled, look three-dimensional and faithful to scale. It suits models of modern destroyers and cruisers, where the search and guidance radars are a prominent part of the superstructures.
Cut the antennas out carefully, fold the three-dimensional parts to match the pattern and strengthen the joints with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue. The fine meshes are better sprayed than brush-painted, and should be handled with tweezers. Fit the finished antennas at the very end of the build so that they do not get damaged.
An accessory for the advanced; the photo-etched parts are no substitute for a kit and are glued with cyanoacrylate.
