An injection-molded plastic kit of the American amphibious assault ship in 1:700 scale. Even in this small scale it is a large model, because the real ship is among the biggest vessels of its kind in the world. The kit allows for a well filled flight deck: besides the ship itself the box contains AV-8B Harrier II aircraft, V-22 tiltrotors, CH-53E, CH-46, AH-1W and SH-60F helicopters and, on top of that, landing craft including LCAC hovercraft and LCU boats.
The USS Essex is the second ship of the Wasp class, that is the large amphibious assault ships of the United States Marine Corps. She entered service at the beginning of the 1990s and for many years belonged to the units permanently based in Japan, from where she took part in exercises as well as humanitarian missions all over the Pacific. She combines a through flight deck for helicopters and vertical take-off aircraft with a floodable well deck for landing craft.
The flight deck will take the most work: the markings are sprayed through masks or applied as decals, and it pays to even the surface out first with a thin coat of base paint. Paint the small aircraft and helicopters while they are still on the sprues and fit them at the very end. The elevators can be built lowered, which gives the model life. After spraying, bring out the hull lightly with a darker shade in the panel lines.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
