The 1:72 HH-60J Jayhawk plastic kit from Hobby Boss represents the rescue helicopter of the US Coast Guard derived from the Black Hawk family.
Responsibility details are not available.
This kit in 1:72 scale captures the HH-60J, the machine of the US Coast Guard intended for search and rescue at sea. Among military helicopters it is a rewarding subject precisely because its task is not a combat one: the Coast Guard color scheme is conspicuous and a finished model stands out clearly in a display case among gray and green equipment.
The HH-60J is based on the Sikorsky S-70 family, the same basis as the Army Black Hawk and the naval Seahawk. For the Coast Guard it was adapted to the task of rescue at a greater distance from the shore: it received equipment for searching over water, a winch by the side door for lifting survivors, and additional fuel so that it could reach the open sea and return. It is used in rescuing ships' crews, in the evacuation of casualties and on patrol duty, and is usually seen in a white and strongly orange finish. Later upgrades of the type led to a further designation, so the Jayhawk still serves today in a modified form.
The key is a clean transition between the white and the orange. Spray the lighter shade first, let it dry thoroughly and only then mask, so that the paint does not lift. Finish the cabin before closing the fuselage, mask the glazing and paint it with the whole. Keep the weathering very restrained, because Coast Guard machines are well maintained; salt deposits and fine wear around the door and the winch help more than dirt.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
