A plastic kit of the Soviet Ilyushin Il-2M attack aircraft in 1:72 scale by the Czech manufacturer Kovozavody Prostejov. Unlike the early makeshift conversion, this is the later production two-seat version with a settled rear gun position, where a gunner sits behind the pilot and defends the machine against fighters. German soldiers gave the Il-2 the nickname Black Death because of its devastating attacks on ground units. The kit holds injection-molded plastic with a clear canopy; the exact numbers of parts and schemes are not stated here.
The Ilyushin Il-2 Shturmovik was a Soviet single-engine attack aircraft and one of the most heavily produced combat machines of all time. This low-flying attacker with an armored fuselage went after tanks, guns, columns and field fortifications. Combat experience showed that single-seat machines needed defense from behind, and so the production two-seat Il-2M with a rear gunner came about — and that is what this model captures. For the enemy the Shturmovik became a symbol of the threat from low altitude.
Glue the parts with thin plastic cement and sand the joints of the massive armored fuselage. Finish the cockpit and the gun position before the fuselage halves are joined. Spray the Soviet green and green-brown camouflage with an airbrush over a primer; chipped paint on the leading edges, smoke stains from the exhausts and dusty, muddy effects on the landing gear and the underside of the wings add to the realism.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
