About product

The real subject

The Kamov Ka-52 is a Russian two-seat attack helicopter with coaxial contra-rotating rotors, which is why it has no tail rotor. The crew sits side by side rather than in tandem, so the cockpit is wide and the instrument panels in it take up a large area. Even in the small 1:72 scale, more is visible under the glazing than bare plastic from the box can offer.

What the set contains

The set brings three-dimensionally printed color interior decals on decal paper. They cover the instrument panels, the side panels and other surfaces of the cockpit. The elements have a three-dimensional relief and carry finished colors including the markings, so painting tiny instruments with a brush, which is practically impossible in this scale, falls away. It is made for the Ka-52 kit from Dream Model in 1:72 scale.

Usage tips

The elements are printed on decal backing paper: cut the part out, leave it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide it off the paper into place. It has no adhesive layer of its own, so first paint the cockpit surfaces, let them dry thoroughly and go over them with gloss varnish (Future or Klear, Tamiya X-22), or the element will not hold. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemistry would attack the printed resin. In 1:72 scale the parts are genuinely tiny, so cut them out with a sharp blade close to the edge of the printing, slide them off the paper with blunt-jawed tweezers after soaking and work in good light, ideally with a magnifier. Press them down only lightly so that the relief is not crushed.

Who it is for

The set suits modelers who want a legible cockpit even in the small scale. It calls for no cutting into the plastic and no sanding, but it does take a steady hand and patience with tiny elements.

Terms of supply

The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

They do. Leave the cut-out part in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide it off the backing paper into place. Do not use a decal softener on them.

It is built to the Ka-52 kit from Dream Model in 1:72 scale.

They are tiny, but manageable. A sharp blade, blunt-jawed tweezers, good light and, if need be, a magnifier all help.

The kit, paints and glue. The set contains only the decal sheet for the cockpit interior.
