A kit of the Japanese four-engined flying boat Kawanishi H8K2, the Model 12 form, in 1:72 scale. A substantial model, supplied unassembled and unpainted.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Kawanishi H8K was a Japanese four-engined flying boat of the Second World War, listed by the Navy as the Type 2 Flying Boat. The Model 12 form corresponds to the designation H8K2, that is, the main production version. For its day it was an exceptional machine: long range, respectable speed and defensive armament such as most flying boats did not have. It flew over the Pacific on long-range reconnaissance, on transport duties and on attacks, and the Allies gave it the reporting name Emily.
In 1:72 scale this is a large model whose span exceeds half a meter, so find space for it first. The underside of the hull has the shape of a boat bottom with a keel and a step, there are stabilizing floats under the wings, and four radial engines mean four propellers and four nacelles. A flying boat has no conventional landing gear, so the model stands on a stand or on the water surface of a scene.
Offer the large parts up dry and only then glue them, because on a long hull every inaccuracy adds up. Sand the joint on the bottom of the hull so that the keel and the step stay crisp, for it is by them that the eye recognizes the boat shape. Mask the glazing of the cockpit and the gun positions before spraying. The range of markings and the recommended shades are given in the instructions; then follow the references for the version you choose, because Japanese naval schemes changed noticeably during the war.
Paints, glue and other accessories are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
