1:72 Lockheed C-130H Hercules

C-130H Hercules 1:72 - Eduard mask set

This is not an aircraft kit but a set of pre-cut masking films in 1:72 scale. The masks are applied to the glazed areas and to the tires, the aircraft is sprayed over and the films are taken off once dry. On a four-engine transport aircraft with extensive cockpit glazing this is by far the fastest and cleanest procedure - masking by hand with tape takes hours here and the result tends to be uneven. The manufacturer is the Czech company Eduard.

The real subject

The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop transport aircraft with a high wing and a rear cargo ramp. The H version is one of the most widespread and served in many countries. The characteristic cockpit glazing, including the side and lower windows, is exactly what makes masking demanding.

Usage tips

Lift the films off the sheet with sharp tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, so as not to crease them. Before application the glazing must be clean and degreased; on a greasy surface the film does not hold and the paint creeps underneath. Press the masks down with a toothpick or a cotton swab, above all around the edges. Apply the paint in thin coats and rather perpendicular than at an acute angle - a heavy coat sprayed from the side creeps under the edge. Take the film off while the paint is only dry, not fully cured; later it peels off less well and can pull the finish away. Any adhesive residue can be removed with lukewarm water and a soft cloth.

Who the set is for

• Builders of C-130H Hercules models in 1:72 scale
• Modelers who want crisp glazing edges without laboriously cutting tape
• Beginners - masks are the easiest route to a clean result
• Those who spray with an airbrush and want to shorten the preparation

This is an accessory, not a stand-alone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Check compatibility with your kit before buying - the masks are cut to the shape of a particular model.
