1:72 Mark 82 Thermally Protected bombs (4pcs)

Mark 82 bombs with thermal protection, 1:72, Reskit

Four Mark 82 bombs with a thermally protective layer, in 1:72 scale. The set is an accessory for a model of an aircraft, not a kit. It replaces the bombs from the box in the situation where the kit offers this variant not at all. Thermal protection is not just a different color finish: it changes the surface of the body to a coarser one, and that cannot be imitated on a plastic part made from halves. In 1:72 scale the texture is fine, but looking at the model from close up you will tell the difference from a smooth bomb.

The real subject

A thermally protective layer guards the filling of a bomb against a premature reaction under a longer exposure to high temperature. It is typical of operation where munitions are stored and transported in tight enclosed spaces. On the body it shows as a coarser and more matte surface, and in service it tends to be distinguished by markings as well.

Tips for working with resin

A textured surface calls for different painting from a smooth part. Apply the primer and the paint in really thin layers, over several passes if need be, because a thick layer will flood the texture and the bomb will then look smooth. When you want to bring the texture out instead, a light dry brush in a lighter shade or very fine misting from above will help. Before painting, wash the release agent and the sanding slurry off the parts. Cut the remainder of the casting block or the printing supports off with a saw and clean up wet only at the place of the cut.

Who the set is for

• Builders of tactical and carrier aircraft in 1:72 scale
• Modelers who distinguish smooth and thermally protected bombs
• Those who build from particular documentation of a store
• More experienced builders used to thin coats and to working with resin

The set is an accessory, not a kit. It is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the basic model are not included in the package.
