A clear vacuum-formed canopy 1:72 Typhoon Mk.Ib (open-closed) from Rob Taurus – cockpit glazing for the British Hawker Typhoon ground-attack aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
A formed clear cockpit canopy for the Hawker Typhoon Mk.IB. The addition in the name refers to the possibility of building the model with the canopy either open or lowered, so the builder can choose according to the intended scene.
The Typhoon came about as a successor to the Hurricane, but it did not prove itself in combat at altitude. It found its place close to the ground: with the Napier Sabre H engine, four cannons in the wing and later with rockets and bombs it became the main British means of close air support in Normandy and during the advance across Western Europe. A characteristic feature is the massive chin radiator under the nose. The cockpit went through a marked change during production: early machines had a low framed glazed canopy with side doors, while later ones received a clean sliding bubble canopy, which opened up the view to the rear for the pilot.
Before gluing, check how the molding seats on the fuselage spine – on the Typhoon the transition from the canopy into the fuselage often needs tuning. Fill small gaps with PVA glue, which turns clear once it has dried and leaves no trace. The inside is painted in the same shade as the cockpit before it is fitted to the model.
The subject of the delivery is the clear canopy alone, without the model, the paints and the adhesives.
