About product

Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R in 1:9 scale (Meng)

A plastic kit of the production supersport Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R in 1:9 scale from Meng. For a motorcycle, 1:9 is a really large scale; the built model is roughly 23 cm long and about 13 cm tall, so it can carry very fine detail. The package combines injection-molded plastic parts with metal parts, photo-etched parts and rubber (soft) parts, the seat and the tires with faithful surface texture, and adds waterslide decals for several color options including an anniversary scheme inspired by the history of superbike racing. The brake discs have a realistic stainless texture, the front and rear suspension and the steering damper are working, and the wheels are done as three-spoke forged ones.

The real subject

The Ninja ZX-10R is a production road supersport from Kawasaki: a liquid-cooled inline four of 998 cc, DOHC, 16 valves, an aluminum frame and extensive electronics. The real machine is over two meters long. Beware of one confusion: Meng also offers the ZX-10RR version, and that is not the same thing. The second R means a homologation special in a limited run, built so that the technology in question could be used in superbike racing: it has a lighter piston assembly with titanium connecting rods, takes higher revs, has different intakes, seven-spoke forged Marchesini wheels and a single seat. What you are buying here is the civilian production R, which you can tell among other things by its three-spoke wheels.

Building and painting tips

The bodywork is glossy, and gloss shows every mistake without mercy: sand the parting lines carefully, smooth the surface by wet sanding through several grits and only then apply filler and color. A gloss coat comes at the end. The sponsor decals sit on strongly curved bodywork areas, so have a decal softener ready; without it a decal will lift and create silvered edges. Build and paint the engine and the frame before you cover them with the bodywork. Degrease the metal and photo-etched parts before painting and use a primer. Do not glue the rubber tires with cement for plastic; it will not hold on them, so reach for super glue.

Who the model is for

  • modelers with experience; it is a detailed kit in several materials, not a weekend build
  • fans of modern supersports and of the Kawasaki marque
  • collectors who want a large and striking model for a display case
  • builders who want to play with a gloss finish, chrome and an exposed engine

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The ZX-10R is a production road supersport that anyone can buy. The ZX-10RR is a homologation special in a limited run, created so that the technology in question could be used in superbike racing, with a lighter piston assembly with titanium connecting rods, a higher rev limit, different intakes and forged Marchesini wheels. This model is the civilian R version.

The real Ninja ZX-10R is over two meters long, so in 1:9 scale the model comes out at roughly 23 cm long and about 13 cm tall. For a motorcycle that is a large scale, and the level of detail matches.

Rather not. It combines plastic, metal, photo-etch and rubber, it has fine parts and above all glossy bodywork, which will reveal every surface imperfection. We recommend it to modelers who already have several built models behind them.

Filler primer, a gloss clear coat for the bodywork, abrasive papers or sponges for wet sanding, super glue for the rubber and metal parts and above all a decal softener; the sponsor decals are applied to strongly curved areas.
