About product

GT65E - a spare 0.50 mm blade for the Mr. Line Chisel GT-65 scriber

A spare scriber blade 0.50 mm wide from the manufacturer Gunze / Mr.Hobby (GSI Creos) for the panel line scriber Mr. Line Chisel GT-65. It is a blade on its own - to be able to use it you have to have the GT-65 scriber (the handle) that it clamps into. Without the scriber the blade has no use at all.

What the scriber is for

Molded parting lines on a model are shallow and often disappear once paint or a clear coat has been sprayed on; sanding seams loses them completely. With a scriber the lines are restored to the depth needed so that they stay distinct under a coat and take a wash well. You proceed by scraping with a pull - you draw the edge along the surface repeatedly, in light strokes guided by a template or tape, not in one heavy cut. The burr at the edges of the groove is smoothed away with a sanding sponge.

Why 0.50 mm in particular

  • A wide blade - it engraves a prominent, clearly visible groove.
  • Intended for large scales (typically 1:32, 1:35, 1:24) and coarser parting lines on large models - tanks, big aircraft, ships.
  • Ideal for prominent panels and gaps and for the outlines of hatches and doors.
  • On a small model this width is too coarse - choose a finer blade there.

Who it is for

For modelers of large scales who need noticeable, clean lines in keeping with the size of the model. Always choose the width according to the scale - a coarse line looks like a trench on a small model, and a fine one disappears on a large one. That is why modelers tend to keep several widths; the GT-65 range covers roughly 0.10 to 1.20 mm and a needle variant completes it. All of them clamp into the same GT-65 scriber.

The blade is very sharp - handle it carefully, draw the strokes away from yourself and keep out of the reach of children.

FAQ

Yes. It is only a spare blade for the Mr. Line Chisel GT-65 scriber. Without that scriber (the handle) you have nothing to clamp it into and you will not use it on its own.

For large scales and prominent lines, typically 1:32, 1:35 or 1:24 - big tanks, aircraft and ships. On a small model this width is too coarse.

By scraping with a pull along the surface in several light repeated strokes guided by a template or tape. Not in one deep cut; the burr is then smoothed with a sponge.

The width of the line has to match the scale. A coarse blade makes a trench on a small model, and a fine one disappears on a large one. The GT-65 range offers widths of roughly 0.10 to 1.20 mm.
