A medium gray aircraft shade from the LP lacquer range from Tamiya, supplied in a 10 ml glass bottle. The LP range is based on an organic solvent, so it is not thinned with water but with the same brand's lacquer thinner. Compared with water-thinnable acrylics it dries faster and leaves a noticeably firmer film on a smooth surface. The shade belongs to the group of aircraft grays, that is tones that go neither toward blue nor toward brown.
The paint is intended above all for spraying. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use so that settled pigment is stirred through, and apply in several thin coats, letting each one set before the next. Fast drying means that with a brush the strokes blend less well, so work over smaller areas and keep returning to the edge while it is still wet. Work in a well-ventilated area and with protection for your airways.
A gray aircraft shade comes into use on the camouflage areas and undersides of aircraft fuselages, where it forms the base for later shading and for bringing out panel lines. On bare plastic it holds well; on photo-etch, metal and resin a primer pays off. Before you start applying decals or further coats, let the paint dry through properly; fresh lacquer is easily damaged under masking tape.
The package contains one bottle of paint of ten milliliters. Close the bottle carefully after use and wipe the thread, otherwise the cap will dry shut in time. Thinner, brushes and spraying equipment are not included, unless stated otherwise.
