The medium green FS34102 from the Southeast Asia camouflage of the American era in Vietnam and from the later lizard scheme. A lacquer tone, 10 ml.
Responsibility details are not available.
The shade FS34102 carries the name Medium Green and belongs among the four colors dictated in 1965 by the American specification for the camouflage of machines deployed in Southeast Asia. It consisted of two greens, a brownish sand tone and a light gray underside, and it was precisely this medium green that formed the transition between the darker green and the sand. Together they were meant to break up the outline of an aircraft seen from above against dense vegetation.
The best known machines of the conflict flew in this coat. F-4 Phantoms over Hanoi, the hulking F-105 Thunderchiefs on missions against bridges, the slow piston-engined A-1 Skyraiders supporting units on the ground, the O-1 and O-2 observation aircraft and the C-130 Hercules transports. The scheme was kept long after the war and became a visual shorthand for a whole era.
The green found its second role in the European lizard camouflage of the 1980s, where it met a dark green and a dark gray on machines deployed against the threat from the east. The same shade thus links two very different chapters of the Cold War.
On application: the boundaries between the fields on the real aircraft were soft, sprayed without stencils. Paint thinned further, a lower pressure and an airbrush held close to the surface will give a blurred transition. Anyone who wants a sharp boundary can use a rolled length of modeling putty laid off the surface so that the tape does not sit down hard. The order is usually chosen from the lightest field to the darkest, because a light tone asserts itself less well over a dark one and would need more coats.
