Hemp to the British standard BS 4800/10B21. A lacquer paint, 10 ml, in a muted brownish gray shade.
Responsibility details are not available.
The name refers to the color of hemp fiber, that is to a muted brownish gray tone with no saturation. The shade suits ropes, cordage, sacking, canvas and other natural materials, which appear on models above all on ships, dioramas and historical subjects.
The binder remains a lacquer binder of the volatile type, so water-based thinners are out of the question. Only the product from the same range serves for thinning. The volume of the bottle is 10 ml. The dried layer is hard and takes the washes with which the texture of natural materials is brought out.
Natural materials differ from painted surfaces in having an uneven color. So it pays to let the base shade dry and then to go over the surface with a darker wash and a lighter dry brush. A uniform surface looks like plastic painted brown, not like hemp fiber.
Natural materials age unevenly, and that is exactly what sets them apart from painted surfaces. So it pays to leave part of a surface darker and part of it lighter, even if at first glance that looks like carelessness.
