A clear satin clear coat in an aerosol can of 86 ml. The binder is water-based, so it attacks neither the decals nor the coats beneath it.

Mr. Top Coat is a ready clear varnish in a pressurized can holding 86 ml, ready for immediate use with no thinning and no airbrush. Within the range three degrees of sheen are distinguished and this one stands in the middle: the surface is left silky, with a faint reflection of the kind a real military finish has after a few months in service.
Water base. The binder is acrylic and water-thinnable, and that is the main advantage of the whole range. The solvent is mild enough not to attack the coats beneath it, so it can safely be laid over an enamel paint, over oil toning or directly onto a decal, which a sharper lacquer clear coat could lift or wrinkle.
Two stages of use. The first comes before the decals. A smooth sealed surface prevents air being trapped under the film and a silvery edge appearing around the motif. The second is sprayed right at the end, when it seals the decals and the washes and evens the whole model out to a single degree of sheen, which after local toning tends to differ from area to area.
How to handle the can. Shake it thoroughly for at least a minute before work, so that the flattening component is dispersed. It is applied in several thin passes with a pause, not in one heavy coat. In a damp and cold environment every clear varnish tends to go white, so spray in a dry and heated room.
The degree of sheen is among the most underrated details. It is often what decides whether a model looks like a miniature or like painted plastic, and even someone who is not aware of it judges it.
