The Chinese brand Galaxy Hobby completes an injection-molded plastic model of the American M1240A1 armored vehicle with extras: printed tires of the Michelin XZL pattern, a photo-etched fret, two figures with gear and decals for three forms of the vehicle. The wheels are made with a flattened contact patch, the spare included, so a standing vehicle looks loaded.
Oshkosh introduced the M-ATV in 2009 for the Afghan battlefield, where the heavy vehicles of the MRAP category could not cope with the terrain. The vehicle has a V-shaped hull against blasts under the floor, independent TAK-4 suspension and a combat weight of about fourteen tons. A protected weapon station sits on top. The A1 suffix in the M1240A1 designation belongs to vehicles with additional floor strengthening.
In 1:72 scale it pays to work from the frame and the chassis, then to fit the body and finally the weapon station. Bend the photo-etched parts in a bending tool or between two blades; they hold with super glue. Free the printed wheels of dust before painting and seat them against a flat surface so that the flattened part beds down evenly. Spray the sand shade thinly so that the rivets do not disappear, and lay the dust on with pigment from below upwards.
The vehicle is sold unassembled and without a finish; get the paints and the glue separately.
