A model of the Chinese Type 054B missile frigate QinZhou in 1:700 scale. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Type 054B frigates are among the newest surface units of the PLA Navy. They follow on from the very numerous Type 054A class, compared with which they are larger and have smoother, less broken-up superstructures. The name QinZhou is carried by one particular ship of this class.
The package contains the parts for building a model of the frigate in 1:700 scale. Their number, the recommended shades and the form of the markings are described in the enclosed instructions. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
A small scale forgives less than it seems: the seams on the hull and on the deck are visible once sprayed, so fill them and sand them down before painting. A proven procedure is to glue the hull and the superstructures, spray the whole with a base paint, add the different shade of the deck and only at the end fit the masts, antennas and other slender parts. Those break off easily with every further handling of the model.
The kit will please modelers with experience of a small scale and collectors of present-day warships. Paints, glue and tools are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise. For this model the same manufacturer also issues a separate set of photo-etched parts.
