Replacement powerplants, 1:144 CFM56-2A for the Douglas DC-8-71, cast in resin. The set from the LACI brand exchanges the original nacelles on a model for the engines of the re-engined Super 70 series.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set serves to exchange the engine nacelles on a model of the four-engine Douglas. Instead of the slender casings of the original powerplant the wing gets the massive nacelles of a turbofan engine with a large fan diameter. The difference is clear at first glance on a finished machine, and without this change the Super 70 version cannot be built faithfully.
The Douglas DC-8 came about at the end of the 1950s as a direct rival of the Boeing 707 and was long one of the mainstays of long-haul routes. At the turn of the 1970s and 1980s part of the fleet went through a conversion to the Super 70 series, in which the original noisy and thirsty JT3D units were replaced by more modern CFM56 engines. The DC-8-71 version came from the long series 61, that is from a machine with a stretched fuselage built for densely filled routes. Re-engining extended its life by decades, and cargo machines stayed in service in this form for a very long time.
Rid the castings of grease in warm water, because the surface from the mold tends to be slippery. Remove the casting residue with a cutting disc and dress the surface on a board with abrasive paper. Try aligning the pylons dry, so that all the nacelles point the same way, and only then secure the joints with super glue.
