About product

Tamiya X-6 Orange (Enamel) — gloss enamel paint, 10 ml

A 10 ml bottle of Tamiya Color Enamel modeling paint in the X-6 Orange shade. A bright, signal orange with a gloss finish (the X line is gloss, the XF line matte). What is on offer is the paint itself — it is not a kit and not model parts.

This is an enamel, not an acrylic

Tamiya carries the X-6 shade in the acrylic and in the enamel line at once, and the numbers are the same in both. Even so these are two different products with different chemistry. What you are buying here is an enamel — a synthetic, solvent-based paint that cannot be thinned with water. The X-20 thinner is used. The acrylic X-20A thinner is not intended for this paint — the name differs only in the final letter, but the contents of the bottle differ entirely. Before you order, be clear about whether you need the enamel or the acrylic X-6.

What to expect from an enamel

  • A very smooth, hard and durable film with excellent adhesion — suitable even for surfaces that take wear.
  • Slower drying and good self-leveling: the paint flows out by itself and brush marks disappear.
  • Enamels are the classic medium for washes and for accentuating panel lines over a cured acrylic base — they do not attack the acrylic layer underneath, so the excess can be wiped away safely.

Use

  • Warning and rescue items — signal areas, beacons, warning stripes, rescue and service vehicles.
  • Racing liveries — striking orange motifs on cars and motorcycles.
  • Aircraft models — the conspicuous areas of trainers, bold stripes and the markings of highly visible parts.
  • A tip on coverage: by the nature of the pigment, orange has weaker covering power. Apply it over a light base (a white or light gray primer) — the color then comes out richer and you get by with fewer coats.
  • Airbrush and brush — for spraying, thin it with X-20 (roughly 2 parts thinner to 10 parts paint as a guide) and apply thin coats. The gloss surface is at the same time a good base under decals, which then do not silver.

Who the paint is for

For modelers who need a rich signal orange with a hard gloss surface, and for those who do enamel washes over an acrylic base. Stir the paint thoroughly before use — the pigment settles to the bottom.

A solvent-based enamel paint. Flammable. It irritates the airways — make sure of thorough ventilation and use respiratory protection. Keep out of the reach of children and away from sources of ignition.

FAQ

Enamel, that is synthetic and solvent-based. It cannot be thinned with water. The acrylic X-6 is a separate product with a different composition — do not confuse them.

The Tamiya X-20 enamel thinner, both for thinning for an airbrush and for cleaning tools. The X-20A thinner belongs to the acrylic paints and is not suitable for enamel.

Orange and yellow pigments cover less well than dark shades. Apply the paint over a light base — a white or light gray primer — and spray several thin coats. The result will be richer and more even.

Yes. Over cured acrylic, enamel is the standard choice for washes and for accentuating panel lines — it does not attack the acrylic layer, so the excess can be wiped away cleanly.
