About product

Yellow Olive - Vallejo Model Air acrylic paint

Yellow Olive is an opaque acrylic paint from the Spanish Vallejo Model Air range. The shade matches the name: an olive green shifted toward yellow, that is a warm, natural-looking tone that suits green camouflage surfaces as well as greenery in a diorama. The binder is acrylic and thinned with water, so the paint does not smell like solvent-based enamels and does not attack plastic. It comes in a dropper bottle of 17 ml, from which you dose the paint drop by drop and do not have to open it needlessly and let it evaporate.

Thinning and application

Model Air comes from the maker already mixed at an airbrush consistency, so in most cases it sprays straight from the bottle. When it does need thinning - for lower pressure, a finer spray or a glaze-like touch - reach for the thinner meant for Vallejo acrylics. Plain water works only in a small ratio; in larger amounts it attacks the binder, the paint then holds worse, curdles in the nozzle and leaves a grainy surface. Lacquer and cellulose thinners do not belong in it at all, as that is different chemistry.

Use

  • Spraying with an airbrush straight from the bottle, with no need to thin it first.
  • Thinning with water only in a small ratio, otherwise with acrylic thinner of the same brand.
  • Brushing on smaller areas and for retouching, bearing in mind that a thinner paint needs more coats.
  • A base green tone for later shading, filters and dry-brushing.
  • Usable on injection-molded plastic, photo-etched parts and resin, ideally over a coat of primer.

Who it is for

For modelers who spray with an airbrush and want a paint whose thinning ratios they do not have to work out, and for beginners looking for a safe water-thinned alternative to solvent-based paints.

Keep out of the reach of children. Ventilate while spraying and use respiratory protection, ideally an extraction booth. Do not pour leftover paint down the drain.

FAQ

As a rule no. Model Air is mixed at an airbrush consistency and can be sprayed straight from the bottle. Thinning it only makes sense when you work at lower pressure or want a more glaze-like coat.

Only in a small ratio. A larger amount of water attacks the acrylic binder, and the paint then adheres worse and curdles. The thinner meant for acrylics of the same brand is more reliable.

Yes, but the paint is deliberately thinner than heavier brush acrylics, so full coverage will need more thin coats. For retouching and small details that is no problem.

It holds reasonably on bare plastic, but with a coat of acrylic primer both the adhesion and the final shade are noticeably more certain, especially on photo-etch and resin.
