Cork roadbed to go under track for building a model railroad layout, a module or a diorama.
Responsibility details are not available.
Cork roadbed is laid under the track on the baseboard of a layout. It lifts the line above the surrounding terrain, so it gets the raised profile of a real railroad line, and at the same time it damps the noise of running vehicles, which would otherwise carry straight into the baseboard and through the whole room. In a diorama it serves just as well as a base under a road or a paved area.
Cork is light and springy and easy to work with. It cuts with a sharp knife, sands without tearing and holds both glue and track pins, so the track can still be shifted during building until everything is fixed down. It is also soft enough to even out small irregularities in the baseboard, and under ballast and paint it leaves no trace of itself.
Dust the baseboard and level it before laying. Glue the roadbed down with PVA glue and weight it until it dries, otherwise the edges lift. Sand the joints between two pieces out to nothing, so that no step forms under the track that would then be felt in running. Apply paint and wood stain thinly and preferably in two passes; cork is absorbent and the first coat largely soaks into it.
The cork material of the roadbed is what is supplied. Track, glue, ballast and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
