About product

What the color is for

IJA Khaki is a subdued earthy khaki shade carried under the part number HTK-C240 in the Hataka Orange Line range. The abbreviation IJA in the name refers to the Imperial Japanese Army, and the Japanese form Khaki-iro in brackets is the name of the same shade. You reach for it on models of Japanese army vehicles and aircraft of the Second World War, but it will serve anywhere else you need a calm earthy area with no marked cast toward green or red.

Application and thinning

Stir the contents of the bottle well before use; after longer standing the pigment settles at the bottom and unstirred paint dries unevenly. The thinner intended for this range and the thinning ratio are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging; follow those instructions. Apply several light coats and let each one flash off. A single heavy coat floods the fine relief, gathers into beads on the edges and then tears during masking.

Painting tips

Wash and degrease the surface of the model beforehand, on greasy plastic the paint holds badly. A primer coat unifies a substrate made of different materials and shows unsanded seams in good time. Large single-color areas look flat, so with earthy shades it pays to lighten the shade slightly on the centers of the panels and to leave a darker tone toward the seams. Lay masking tape only on a dried coat and lift it carefully at a sharp angle. Close the bottle right after work and keep it dry and away from frost.

FAQ

For models of Japanese army vehicles and aircraft of the Second World War, but you can use it anywhere a subdued earthy khaki fits.

A thinner intended for this range. The thinning ratio and the recommended way of applying it are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.

Most often it is down to insufficiently stirred paint or too heavy a coat. Stir the contents of the bottle right down to the bottom and spray several light coats.

It is not. The paint is supplied on its own; thinner and tools are bought separately.
