A set of ten Model Craft modeling files for fine-tuning the shape of parts and cleaning up joints. The profiles and the coarseness of the cut are given on the packaging of the set.

A file is the tool for removing material where abrasive paper is no longer enough and a blade would do more harm than good. A modeler uses it to level the remains of a part that has been cut away, to true up a joint that does not sit properly, to adjust the shape of a sanded edge and to clean out the inside of holes. Small files also suit materials harder than polystyrene, that is, resin and metal, because the bite is slow and easy to control.
The set contains ten files. The individual profiles differ in where they can reach: the flat one levels flat surfaces, the half-round one works in hollows, the round one enlarges and cleans holes, and the triangular and knife-edge ones get into sharp corners. Which profiles are actually included, their length and the coarseness of the cut are given on the packaging of the set.
A file cannot cut; material comes off gradually and in small steps. Guide it with a stroke away from you and lift it on the return stroke, otherwise the cut is dulled needlessly. Hold the part in your hand or clamp it so that it does not flex. Clean a clogged cut with a brass brush; with plastic the material packs between the teeth very quickly. Finish the surface after the file with abrasive paper of increasing fineness, otherwise the marks will show under the paint. Sand resin wet and extract the dust.
The file set is supplied in the version listed in the manufacturer's catalog. Abrasive paper, clamping aids and other tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
