Vallejo Model Air Red 17 ml — Universal Red

A red from Vallejo's Model Air range. This is a modeling paint, not a kit. Model Air is a water-thinnable acrylic with finely ground pigments, mixed specifically for airbrush spraying — from the 17 ml dropper bottle it can be sprayed straight, with no mandatory thinning. It dries to a matte finish.

Note: There Are Two Different Model Air Reds

Both share the same name in Vallejo's range — Red — but they are two different products with a different shade:

• This paint is a universal pure red, for which the manufacturer states no color standard. It is a free, generally usable red for modeling work and mixing shades.
• The other Model Air red, by contrast, is tied to standard RAL 3000 — a fire red, a standardized shade. Reach for that one when you specifically need the shade matching this standard.

Both are acrylics from the Model Air range, and both spray straight from the bottle. They differ in shade and in the fact that one matches a standard and the other does not. Check which one you need before buying.

Application tips

Red has weak covering power — over a dark or gray base it looks dirty and needs many coats. Always apply it over a white or light base, ideally a white primer or a light base coat. Spray several thin coats rather than one heavy one. Shake the paint well before use and wash the airbrush right after finishing.
