Wet abrasive of 1500 grit for preparing surfaces for gloss coats, metallic shades and clear parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
The difference between a flat and a gloss finish is decided before the modeler reaches for the airbrush. Gloss hides nothing; on the contrary, it underlays every unevenness with a reflection and brings it out. A grit of 1500 is therefore the grade that prepares the surface for gloss coats, for chrome and aluminum shades and for areas that will carry decals.
It does great service on canopies and transparencies of clear plastic, where a pressed or scratched surface can be saved by sanding it back step by step and polishing it afterwards. It serves just as well on the hoods of car models, on the fuselages of aircraft with a smooth skin and anywhere a coarser mark must not show under the polish. The work is done in water, which carries the slurry away and lets the grit work to the full.
Dry the part and look at it against a sharp point light, turning it so that a reflection appears in the surface. The remaining scratches show up as fine hairlines running in one direction. If you see them, go back a grade and work across the original direction; only when these crosswise marks disappear as well are the older scratches really gone. Then it makes sense to carry on with a finer grit or straight to polishing compound. On clear parts it pays to check every stage by looking through the glazing, because the haze in the material disappears only with the last steps and an earlier check tends to be misleading.
After use, let the sheet dry flat and unfolded. Paper that is crumpled or folded while wet cracks along the bends and leaves a pronounced scratch on the part at the crease, which you then have to sand out again.
