A flat profile in styrene (polystyrene) with a cross section of 1.0 x 5.0 mm and a length of 350 mm, supplied in a package of 10 pieces. The ratio of small thickness to fairly large width makes it a typical plank strip: wherever you need a flat band, cladding or a board, it suits better than a rod with a square cross section. Styrene is the same material that injection-molded kits are made of, so it joins to kit parts with ordinary cement for plastics and behaves the same way when sanded and painted.
A thin profile is best divided by scoring with a sharp knife and snapping along the scored line; for exact lengths it pays to measure against the part rather than by a ruler. It is bonded with thin cement for plastics, which runs into the joint by capillary action and joins the material chemically, or with a thicker cement where you need time to align things. Before painting it is enough to degrease the surface and spray it with primer just like kit plastic. For a convincing wood texture you can roughen the surface lightly with sandpaper or a toothed blade before painting.
For modelers who modify, finish or scratch-build parts and dioramas, and for anyone who wants to keep a stock of basic building material in the workshop. Working with the profiles needs no special tools, just a sharp knife and cement for plastics.
Glue, paints and tools are not included in the package. When cutting and sanding, work on a mat and in a well-ventilated room.
