The desert version of the German field uniform is captured by German uniforms Tropical Tan 1 from the Lifecolor acrylic line, the tone of tropical cloth before the sun pulls it toward the light.
Responsibility details are not available.
This water-based acrylic paint belongs to the group Lifecolor set aside for German uniforms. When painting figures that is a substantial difference from the shades for vehicles: fabric behaves differently from sheet metal. It has no hard highlight, it holds dirt in the folds and in the sun it shifts far faster than the factory coat of a vehicle.
Why there are two tropical tones in the line
The German tropical uniform behaved unpredictably in North Africa. New cloth was richer and had a noticeable greenish undertone, but after a few weeks of sand, sweat and harsh sun it faded into a light, almost sandy position. The manufacturer therefore offers two numbers. This first one holds the state closer to the original shade and is the base from which fading can be built up step by step; the other way round, from faded cloth to new, never works convincingly.
Lay down a continuous base tone and only then deal with volume. A darker position of the same shade belongs in the folds, a lighter one on the edges and the taut places. What matters is keeping the transitions soft; a sharp boundary between light and shadow gives the painting away on a figure at once, because wool cloth and canvas do not break light that way.
For modelers of figures and dioramas from the North African theater and for collectors of busts, where the area of uniform is large and the difference between new and worn cloth shows at a glance.
Stir the paint before work, work in a well-ventilated room and keep it out of the reach of children.
