A modeling paint in a medium gray shade listed under the name Kriegsmarine Mittelgrau with the designation DKM51.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a modeling paint in a gray shade that the name lists as Kriegsmarine Mittelgrau, that is, the medium gray of the German wartime navy. The numerical designation DKM51 refers to the period range of naval grays, in which the individual shades differed mainly in their degree of brightness. That is exactly why it pays to stay inside one range with a ship model: neighboring grays look believable only when they come from the same range and are not mixed with a gray from another system.
The shade is aimed at the hulls and superstructures of German surface ships of the Second World War period, where it forms the basic area of the finish, and it also suits the accessories that stand out from those areas. It will serve outside the naval subject too, everywhere a builder is looking for a neutral medium gray without a cast toward blue or toward brown.
Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles at the bottom. Choose the thinner and the thinning ratio as instructed by the manufacturer on the packaging, that is, the thinner intended for this range. Apply in several thin coats and let them flash off between one another; the large flat areas of a ship's side will give away every heavy application, and one dense coat will moreover flood the engraving and the edges. Wash and degrease the surface before painting, as the paint holds better on a primed surface. Before the decals come up, coat the area with gloss varnish, as silvering forms under the decal film on a matte surface.
The paint is supplied on its own. Thinner, primer, varnishes, brushes and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
