1:72 PT Boat Weapon Set No.5 – 37 mm M4 Autocannon is an accessory weapon set for models of American torpedo boats. The fifth item of the series, this time with the 37 mm autocannon.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a model of a boat but an accessory with which a finished or part-built model of an American PT torpedo boat in 1:72 scale is given extra armament. The set brings a 37 mm autocannon in the M4 form. A small weapon is exactly the kind of part where a fine casting tells at once: the barrel, the mount and the fittings have dimensions in this scale that an injection mold can capture only coarsely.
The series of weapon accessories for PT boats has several items in it and they differ precisely in the kind of weapon. Side by side there are a set with the M3 gun, a set with a rocket launcher, this set no. 5 with the M4 autocannon and a set with the 40 mm Bofors gun. The designations M3 and M4 look similar, but they are two different weapons – this item is the one with the M4 autocannon. The M4 cannon came about originally as an aircraft weapon, and on the decks of patrol boats it appeared as extra armament that crews added to the factory fit.
First wash the casting in lukewarm water with detergent so that no mold release agent stays on the surface. Cut the casting gates off with a saw or a cutting disc; with the thin barrel, go carefully and rather in small steps. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Use a primer before painting, or acrylic will hold badly on the smooth surface. The weapon looks best in a dark metallic shade with the edges picked out lightly by dry-brushing and with the muzzle slightly darkened. Fit the set only after the deck is finished, so that you have room around it for your hands.
This is an accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
