Tanks, fenders and fairings with a color scheme of their own are the domain of shades like the acrylic Lifecolor Riding Sky: a paint for paintwork that copies no period table.

Motorcycle and car models have one peculiarity. The painted area is the main thing on them. Whereas with military vehicles dust and scuffs are reckoned with, here it is the smoothness, the evenness and the way light is reflected in the surface that are judged. Riding Sky is a shade from the Lifecolor acrylic range named figuratively and intended for precisely such work, not for meeting a period regulation.
The surface underneath decides more than the paint. A glossy area will accentuate every unevenness it has beneath it, so the part must be perfectly clean and degreased before spraying. Then lay the paint down in several light coats and lead the last coat in a continuous movement across the whole part, so that no visible transition arises anywhere.
Beside such an area metal stands out most when there is little of it. Leave the engine, the exhaust and the frame in subdued metal tones and save the real shine for a few small items: bolt heads, levers, end caps and footpegs. When the whole machine shines, the shine loses its effect and the model starts to look like a toy.
For builders of motorcycles and cars and for modelers who design their color scheme themselves.
When spraying, ensure ventilation and protection of your airways, close the container after use and keep it out of the reach of children.
