Diesel Loco Roof Grey is a modeling paint from a coherent Lifecolor range devoted entirely to the finishes of British railroad vehicles. The name of the shade is aimed at the gray of the roofs of diesel locomotives. On locomotives the roof tends to be done in a different color from the sides, so it is a shade that cannot be derived from the main finish of a vehicle and is bought separately.
Paradoxically, the roof is most visible precisely on a model. Whereas with a real vehicle you will not look at it from a platform, a layout is viewed from above and the roof makes up a large part of what a viewer will see. It therefore pays to give it the same attention as the sides. A gray roof is at the same time the place where the most grime and exhaust deposits hold, so it is a rewarding ground for the weathering that follows and that gives a model believability.
