Gray-white sits on the border between white and light gray. It is the shade of working surfaces and technical equipment: light coats on machinery, the insides of halls and garages, sheet-metal covers and elements that need to be light but not white. The number RAL 9002 in the name names the shade by an industrial standard, so it can be compared against the reference documentation or against paint from another manufacturer, rather than relying only on a verbal description.
The light shade with a gray component covers a little more readily than pure white, but the rule of thin coats still applies. A single heavy coat will fill in the panel-line detail and leave buildup at edges that then sands away harder than it went on. First wash and degrease the surface, or the paint will lift when you peel off masking tape. Stir the bottle thoroughly before use so the settled pigment returns into the paint, and thin it with thinner made for this line. The manufacturer states the thinning ratio and airbrush pressure in the instructions on the package.
Gray-white is a rewarding base. A light area lets seam filling and later weathering stand out while not drawing attention to itself. It also works well as an intermediate step when you need to tone down the harshness of white without reaching for an obviously gray shade. On large areas, lighten the center of the panel and leave a darker tone in the corners, or the model will visually lose volume.
For modelers who paint with both an airbrush and a brush and are looking for a light shade with a documented standard designation. The bottle holds 17 ml of paint; thinner and other accessories are not included, unless stated otherwise.
