Wildlife Standoff - HO Scale

A confrontation at the edge of the forest

A wolf pack hunts by endurance, not by the strength of the individual. It surrounds its prey, tires it out and only then attacks, so an adult antlered male who faces them head on and will not be pushed into running has a real chance of holding out. It is exactly this moment that the set catches. A fearless antlered male defends himself here against three wolves, while a fourth howls to call further members of the pack. It is a scene with action of its own, which is not often seen with animal figures.

Five animals, one scene

The group brings together five pieces: one stag and four wolves, one of which stands a little way off. The arrangement is therefore given by the content of the package itself and the builder does not have to work out how the castings relate to each other. On a layout in a ratio of 1:87 the scene comes into its own best in a clearing above the track, at the edge of a wooded slope or on a module where the line passes through wilderness far from any buildings.

How to let the scene come off

The placing decides everything. When the animals are set out in a circle with the stag in the middle, the scene reads at once even from a meter away; when they are spread out in a row, all that comes of it is a group of animals with no tension. The wolf with its head raised belongs to one side and preferably higher, so that it is clear it is calling toward the forest. A little taller grass around the legs hides the seams of the bases and at the same time gives the impression that the animals are standing in growth rather than on a carpet. Anyone building the scene at the foot of an embankment can leave one wolf half hidden behind a bush: a viewer finds it only after a moment and the scene gains depth by it.
