This paint has a coarser metal pigment that settles to the bottom of the bottle. Take a minute to make sure the contents are thoroughly mixed — a few shakes of the bottle are not enough. Metal pigments perform best on a smooth, gloss base, where they reflect light; on a rough or matte base the shade darkens and turns gray. Save the metallic for the end of the painting process: overcoating with further layers, as well as washes and pigments, easily kills the metallic look. Be just as careful with masking tape — it tends to grip a metallic surface too well and can pull off a layer of paint when removed. For an airbrush, thin the paint with Tamiya X-20A and spray several thin coats rather than one heavy one.
