About product

Yellow Ochre - an Abteilung 502 acrylic paint

Yellow Ochre, that is yellow ocher, is among the oldest and most used earth shades of all. In the Abteilung 502 range it is a paint from the acrylic line, which is thinned with water. The brand is renowned above all for its oil paints, but this item belongs to the acrylic branch: it dries quickly, manages without solvents and is water-resistant once dry.

Use

  • Desert and sand camouflage shades on equipment and gear.
  • Dust and dry deposits: ocher is the basic tone of settled dust on the undersides of vehicles and on the suspension.
  • Terrain on dioramas: earth, roads, dry grass.
  • Mixing khaki and olive tones, where ocher serves as the warm component.
  • Highlights and transitions on figures in earth-colored uniforms.

How to work with the paint

With a brush it is applied straight from the container; for an airbrush it is thinned with water or an acrylic thinner of the same chemistry. Earth shades will stand a great many variations: thinned, they work as a filter unifying an area; on a dry brush they accentuate edges and rivets; stippled and spread out, they create an uneven dusty deposit. Always work in thin coats and let the paint dry between them, as acrylic can then no longer be washed off with water, so further effects can be built without risk.

Who the paint is for

  • Modelers of military equipment who weather and dust their models.
  • Authors of dioramas and terrain bases.
  • Figure painters working with an earth palette.

The volume of the package, the degree of gloss and the exact shade against the manufacturer's color chart are not stated here. Work in a well-ventilated space and close the container carefully after use.

FAQ

Yes, it is thinned with water. Beside its acrylics the Abteilung 502 brand also makes an oil line; the two have a different chemistry and a different thinner, so check which one you are taking.

For desert and sand camouflage, for dusting the undersides and the suspension, and for the terrain of dioramas. It also serves as the warm component when mixing khaki and olive tones.

Yes. Heavily thinned ocher unifies the coloring of a whole area and shifts it toward a warmer tone. Apply it in thin coats and check the effect as you go.

With water, while the paint is still damp. Once dry, acrylic cannot be removed with water, so wash the tools out as you work.
