The model captures an object of the Czechoslovak heavy fortifications listed as K-Am-S 43 with the period name Veverka. It is made by the Czech association ROP o.s., a long-standing specialist in models of the Czechoslovak border fortifications, which keeps a continuous numbered series of dozens of objects in this scale. The 1:1000 scale is very small — a finished piece takes up only a few centimeters and serves rather as a collector's model or an element of a landscape model than as a conventional large kit.
The objects of the heavy fortifications differed from one another more than it seems at first glance: according to their role in the line, single-sided and double-sided casemates were built, single-story ones and ones with an underground level, with different wall thicknesses according to the expected threat. What they had in common was the principle of mutual fire support — the embrasures pointed to the flanks and covered the approaches of the neighboring objects, while the massive front wall set into the ground faced the enemy. The name served in the period documentation to tell the structures in a sector apart quickly.
Keep to a restrained palette. A light gray concrete base, a dark wash run into the joints and the embrasures and a fine dry brush along the edges will do more at this scale than any elaborate weathering. Strong rusty or muddy effects read as dirt on such a small surface. If a groundwork base is included, the biggest difference is made by static grass in two lengths and a fine pigment for the transition between growth and soil. Dry-fit the parts first and only then glue them, dosing with a thin piece of wire.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
