Riich 1:200 USS Gato SS-212 (1944) is a plastic kit of the American ocean-going submarine of the Gato class in her 1944 appearance in 1:200 scale, with an OS2U Kingfisher floatplane.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit from the manufacturer Riich Models captures the American ocean-going submarine USS Gato (SS-212) in the configuration of 1944, that is in her later wartime appearance, in 1:200 scale. A small OS2U Kingfisher floatplane is included with the model. The large scale lets the detail of the deck, the conning tower and the armament stand out. The model can be conceived as a full hull or as a waterline.
USS Gato was the lead ship of a numerous class of American fleet submarines deployed in the Pacific during the Second World War. These submarines had a great range, a strong torpedo and deck armament, and carried out a number of combat patrols against the Japanese fleet. The 1944 appearance reflects the later wartime modifications of the conning tower and the armament.
In the large scale the cleaning up of the parting line of the hull and the fine assembly of the structures of the conning tower and the guns both stand out. An airbrush and the period shades of American submarines suit the finish; the deck and the detail can be accented with a dark wash. The floatplane included can be built and painted separately as an addition to the display.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
