This unassembled and unpainted plastic kit in 1:24 scale captures the formal Japanese Toyota Crown sedan in the UZS131 version with Royal Saloon G equipment, that is the form of the 1989 model year. The kit is made by the Japanese company Aoshima in its range of models of Japanese production cars.
The Crown is the longest-produced passenger model of the Toyota brand and in Japan it has represented the standard for a formal sedan for decades. The generation of the S130 series of the late 1980s built on an angular body with a formal look, generous equipment and quiet comfort. The code UZS131 denotes the form with an eight-cylinder engine, which entered the Crown range in 1989 and moved the car up a class. The Royal Saloon G was the best-equipped version, intended above all for company and formal use.
A formal sedan needs a flawless finish. Sand the body down, apply a primer, check it against the light again and only then spray the base color — with a car of this kind dark shades, pearl finishes or a deep metallic suit. Mix metallic paints thoroughly, because the pigment settles to the bottom, and apply them onto a smooth base; they are harder to spray over and to mask, so spray them at the very end. Then use a gloss varnish and polish the surface out. The Crown has a lot of chrome trim strips: do not sand the plated parts, and make them good if need be with a modeling chrome paint or a thin foil. Finish the interior before closing the body up, and do not glue the tires with a cement for plastic.
