An injection-molded plastic kit of the Volkswagen Beetle (Type 1) in a rendering inspired by the American custom and hot rod scene. The package is a licensed edition of the Mooneyes brand, whose typical features the model carries: smooth polished wheel covers, the so-called moon discs, and the well-known logo with an eye. The 1:24 scale is the most widespread one for car models, so the finished car suits most collections. The maker is the Japanese company Hasegawa.
The Volkswagen Type 1, known as the Beetle, is among the longest-produced cars in history. A rear-mounted air-cooled flat-four, a simple platform chassis and indestructible mechanicals made it a car that sold all over the world and became an icon. It was precisely thanks to its simplicity and the availability of parts that the American custom scene took to the Beetle as well: a lowered chassis, wider wheels, polished discs and accessories from specialist suppliers made it a favorite basis for individual modifications. The Mooneyes brand has long been a name in this environment and its products are bound up with the culture of modified cars in California as well as in Japan.
Car models rest on the quality of the finish. It is a good idea to wash the body before spraying, spray a primer and apply the paint in thin coats, then coat it with a gloss varnish and polish it. Finish the interior and the chassis and set them apart in color before you close the body up — once it is glued you will not reach them. Do not glue chrome-plated parts with cyanoacrylate glue, which clouds the chrome; use cement for plastic applied in minimal amounts, or a clear modeling varnish. Mask the glazing with strips of masking material before painting.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
