Three markings for a 1:32 model of the Meteor F.4, among them the brilliant yellow machine from the November 1945 attempt on the speed record and aircraft of the Dutch and Egyptian air forces.
Responsibility details are not available.
The most striking subject on the whole sheet is the aircraft with the serial EE455, which for its brilliant color was known as Yellow Peril and also as Forever Amber. It was flown by the manufacturer's chief test pilot Eric Greenwood, and at the end of 1945 the Royal Air Force used it in an attempt on the world speed record. The machine was given an overall gloss trainer shade and, for aerodynamic reasons, lost its antenna masts, while the gun ports in the nose were covered and smoothed over. Anyone who builds this option gets an aircraft in the display case that looks like nothing else.
The other two subjects show how quickly the British jet fighter spread to further countries. The Dutch machine with the marking Y9 and the number 5 served with the 323rd Squadron at Leeuwarden in the 1950s; it was silver overall and its recognition feature was a red nose tip. The Egyptian aircraft number 1406 belonged to the 20th Squadron at Almazah in 1950 and carried black and white recognition stripes over its silver finish.
The yellow subject calls for a white base, otherwise the shade stays weak and the metal shows through it. The silver machines, by contrast, take fine panel shading, which gives the finish depth. On areas this large the black and white stripes are better sprayed through masks than assembled from printed pieces, because a straight edge of film is hard to hold on a curved fuselage. The red nose tip of the Dutch machine, on the other hand, can be handled by the print; just lay it on a damp base and press it down from the center outward. The package holds the printed sheet only; paints and masks do not belong with it, and the aircraft model is a separate product.
