The real subject

The Messerschmitt Bf 109K-4 was the last series-built version of the most numerous German fighter of the Second World War. It differed from the older configurations in revised covers and in other details of the airframe, and it reached the units only in the very last part of the war. In 1:32 scale even the fine surface detail stands out on a model, so it pays to give attention to the places that are clearly visible once the build is complete, and the open landing gear bays are among them.

What the masks are for

The set contains masks for spraying the landing gear bays of a model of the Bf 109K-4 in 1:32 scale. The masks are pre-cut to a shape matching the parts of a particular kit, so the tedious cutting of masking tape falls away and the color transition comes out sharp along the whole length of the edge. Which kit they are cut for should be checked against the manufacturer's data on the packaging and in the instructions, because the shape differs from one manufacturer to another.

Usage tips

The masks are placed on the surface before spraying, never onto paint that has already dried. The surface has to be clean and degreased, otherwise the edge of the mask lifts and the paint creeps under. Press the mask down along the whole edge with a blunt toothpick and apply the paint in several thin coats perpendicular to the edge, so that it does not get under it. Lift the masks off carefully, before the paint has fully cured, and by pulling sideways, not upward. Under the mask an exact transition stays that only needs a light cleaning up at most.
