An add-on set from the maker Tetra Model Works for sharpening a plastic kit of the Japanese destroyer Sagiri in 1:700 scale. It is not a kit and not a finished model; the set completes a kit you have already bought. A small ship scale is the most demanding of all on detail: what on a real ship is made up of thin sections, gratings and rigging has to be metal on the model, or it looks disproportionately massive. The exact extent of the package is given by the maker on the packaging. According to the name, the intended kit is Yamashita Hobby.
The Sagiri was a Japanese destroyer of the Fubuki class. Ships of this class were marked by a combination of 12.7 cm gun armament in enclosed mounts and heavy torpedo armament, thanks to which they were exceptionally well armed for their day. The designation of the year 1941 in the title refers to the state of the ship at the beginning of the war in the Pacific, that is before the later modifications to the antiaircraft armament that were carried out on Japanese destroyers in the following years.
With ship sets it works well to build the model in sections: finish and paint the hull, then the superstructure, and only at the very end fit the fine metal. Leave the photo-etched parts on the fret as long as possible and cut them off only at the moment of gluing; they are easily lost. Use a tiny amount of superglue for the joints; on very fine elements gloss acrylic clear applied with a brush also works, holding the part and staying transparent once it has dried. Finally unify the model with a very thin spray of the base shade, so that the metal and the plastic merge.
The add-on set is supplied unpainted, with no glue and no base kit. Verify before buying that the set matches the kit you own.
