About product

75 mm PaK 40 barrel without a muzzle brake 1:35 – a turned set from Aber

This turned metal barrel from the Polish maker Aber in 1:35 scale shows the German 75 mm PaK 40 anti-tank gun in the form without a muzzle brake. The metal part is machined on a lathe, it has no seam from the mold parting line, it keeps an exact circular cross section and the muzzle is drilled out. The set is an accessory to a kit of the gun or of a self-propelled mounting and does not hold the model itself.

The real subject

The 7.5 cm PaK 40 was the main German anti-tank weapon of the Second World War from 1942 onward. It was produced in large numbers both in the classic towed form with splitting carriage trails and as the armament of a range of self-propelled mountings. Its typical marks were a long barrel and a low shield. The form of the barrel without a muzzle brake appeared on part of the production and on some installations, where it was desirable to limit the blast wave and the dust thrown up that gave away the firing position.

Building and painting tips

The turned barrel is fitted in place of the plastic part, which usually has to be cut off, and the hole in the mantlet or shield carefully opened out with a round file. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue or two-part epoxy, and on heavier parts it is worth reinforcing the joint. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and apply a primer, otherwise the paint holds badly. We recommend blackening the muzzle and knocking back the inside to a matte finish; the outer surface takes light drybrushing with a metallic pigment and some wear at the muzzle.

FAQ

No. It is a turned metal barrel, that is a detail accessory. The base kit of the gun or the vehicle has to be obtained separately.

The set deliberately shows the PaK 40 in the form without a muzzle brake. Check which form matches the subject you are building before you buy.

A turned barrel has no seam from the mold, it is perfectly straight, it has a properly circular cross section and a drilled muzzle. That does away with sanding and filling the joint.

It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy. Before painting, the metal has to be degreased and sprayed with a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
