The photo-etched set Eduard 1:35 M551 Sheridan front anti-RPG wire net adds a front anti-HEAT wire-mesh screen of thin metal to the model. It is not a vehicle kit but an accessory for a plastic model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:35 scale, intended for detailing the plastic model of the American M551 Sheridan light tank. It focuses on the front anti-HEAT wire-mesh screen, that is on a feature that injection-molded plastic can only imitate coarsely and in an unrealistic thickness. The set is not a vehicle kit in its own right; it is an aftermarket accessory that is fitted to a model already built or under construction.
The M551 Sheridan was an American light armored reconnaissance and airborne vehicle introduced in the 1960s. It carried a 152 mm gun system that could fire conventional ammunition as well as guided antitank missiles. Its low weight and its ability to float allowed it to be carried by air. During deployment in Southeast Asia wire nets were fitted to the front of the superstructure, their job being to set off a shaped-charge warhead at a standoff from the armor and so reduce its penetrating effect.
Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, not with sprue cutters for plastic. Bend the fine mesh in a bending tool or between two blades, so that the edge stays crisp and straight. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is with super glue, applied with a pin in minute drops; on larger areas a slow-setting epoxy helps. Degrease the metal and apply a primer before painting, otherwise paint will not hold on the smooth surface. Paint the net only after it is glued on, match the shades to the vehicle and add weathering with pigments.
The package holds photo-etched parts only. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
