The detailed plastic kit MK-15 Phalanx CIWS in 1:35 scale from RPG Model is a model of a shipboard close-in gun defense system, not of a whole ship.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the shipboard MK-15 Phalanx CIWS defense system in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer RPG Model. Note that this is not a model of a whole ship but a standalone model of the weapon system, that is, of the mount with its rotary cannon and the characteristic radome. Thanks to the large 1:35 scale the wealth of detail comes out; the package usually contains photo-etched parts as well. The model suits either as a striking standalone object on a base or as an addition to a diorama. The exact contents of the package are not stated here.
The MK-15 Phalanx is an American close-in weapon system (CIWS). It consists of a rapid-firing 20 mm rotary cannon coupled with its own search and tracking radar. The system works largely automatically as the last link in a ship's defense: it searches for, tracks and destroys incoming anti-ship missiles, aircraft and other targets at short range on its own. Its typical rounded white radome earned it a nickname that refers to its shape. It is used by a whole range of navies around the world.
Cut the parts off the sprues and glue them with thin modeling cement for plastic; fix the fine photo-etched parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Assemble and paint the cannon barrels and the radome separately. Apply a primer and the paints with an airbrush, and accentuate metal parts and details with a dry brush and a fine wash. The system usually carries a light, slightly faded naval finish: add appropriate wear and traces of service.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
