The set shows the American Browning heavy machine gun of 7.62 mm caliber (.30 in the inch designation) with water cooling of the barrel, in 1:35 scale. It is not a vehicle kit but a weapon on its own for a diorama and a figure scene. The castings are of polyurethane resin and are complemented by photo-etched sheet, thanks to which the thin parts have a scale thickness. The manufacturer is the Czech company Plusmodel.
The water-cooled heavy machine gun of John Browning's design was adopted by the American army as early as the First World War and, in a version with a modified mount, served in the Second World War as well. The jacket filled with water carried the heat away from the barrel, so the weapon stood up to long bursts; that is why it was used in defensive positions, at posts and for antiaircraft defense, where firing went on longer than in mobile fighting. A position consisted of the weapon on a tripod, a gunner and a loader with belted ammunition.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water and cut the casting blocks off with a fine-toothed saw; support the legs of the mount and the thin parts so that they do not break off. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, which holds on the photo-etched parts too. After a primer a very dark base suits, with a subtle lightening of the upper surfaces and a graphite pencil or a metallic pigment on the edges. A weapon in position looks convincing with dust pigment on the underside and with a belt of ammunition added to a box.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
